In the seemingly constant struggle for peace of mind, it is important that we are aware of all the natural methods of relaxation that the Earth has bore for us.
Know what a Boswellia tree is? If you enjoy frankincense you probably should, and if you don't you're about to find out anyway!
Boswellia trees are native to African and Arabian regions such as Ethiopia, Yemen, and Somalia. The sap from the tree is taken and hardened into a gum resin. To make the Frankincense essential oil, the resin is then steam distilled and poof! Oman is said to be the oldest and best known source of Frankincense.
Frankincense as many of us know is usually burned as incense. In the ancient world it was used for ceremonies, spiritual practices, and even as makeup. Today people use in many of the same ways and more.
As an essential oil, usually inhaled or diffused through a vaporizer, frankincense can help with dry skin, cell regeneration, tissue health, and healing cuts and scars. It can strengthen hair roots and gums, stop bleeding wounds, and help reduce anger, stress, anxiety, and even depression. That last part is especially important since depression affects over 120 million people globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is also the leading cause of disability relative to years on the planet.
There are many more amazing uses for this ancient remedy (more info below), but it's not all sunshine and rainbows. There's been talk for years about a particular species of Boswellia tree becoming endangered from over harvesting. In general it's important to do our own research and remind ourselves that too much a good thing can be a bad thing not just for us but for the environment.
Have you used frankincense before? How did you feel? Comment and let me know!
